National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leader Offers Guidance to Startups at iMatSci Innovation Showcase in Boston

Innovation Space President and CEO Bill Provine joins experts from Harvard, Greentown Labs, Activate, RxnHub, & Luminate, in a discussion on finding the right support community

Wilmington, Del. — Bill Provine, President and CEO of The Innovation Space ™ will lead a panel discussion including experts in science and tech startup community from across the US at the iMatSci Innovation Showcase on Tuesday, Nov. 29 in Boston. The panelists of “Start-Up Support Communities for Materials-Based Companies: Which is Right for You?” will discuss the difference between incubators, accelerators, CROs and research centers, so that entrepreneurs can assess and decide the best opportunity for their company.

As the founder and CEO of The Innovation Space™, a not-for-profit innovation ecosystem as well as a virtual and physical home for leading science entrepreneurs, Provine has supported and cultivated dozens of science and technology startups in their quests to become leaders in their respective industries. Provine serves on the board for the National Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has decades of experience in science and engineering- based innovation and commercialization at DuPont, where he oversaw both the company’s global innovation centers and regional labs.

“There is no one-size-fits-all approach to an entrepreneurship program in the sciences. Choosing the right ecosystem that will both challenge and support an early-stage startup is one of the most critical decisions that a company can make,” Provine said. “It is my privilege to moderate a discussion with such an esteemed panel of experts in order to help the next generation of innovators find the right fit for them.”

The iMatSci Innovation Showcase is a leading convening of independent technology leaders and startup companies as part of the Materials Research Society Annual Conference. iMatSci spurs collaboration and accelerates the use of new materials technologies by connecting innovators with early-stage investors, corporate scouts, potential collaborators, and research and development professionals. The iMatSci conference is one of the many ways that Innovation Space is supporting startups across the country and attracting global talent. Across the Mid-Atlantic and throughout the country, Innovation Space has invested in dynamic startups in the fields of health care, advanced materials, diagnostics, therapeutics, nutrition, chemical ingredients, industrial and agricultural biotechnology and renewable energy.

In just five years since its inception in 2017, Innovation Space, located on the Experimental Station campus in Wilmington, Delaware, has supported and enabled more than 80 startups in their growth journeys, which in turn has raised over $800 million in private capital.

“Cooperation and collaboration is the lifeblood of innovation. Connecting startups with the physical resources, capital and mentorship opportunities they need to succeed is vital,” Provine said. “Supporting early-stage companies in the ecosystem that is right for them is critical to helping them advance to the next stage of their growth. The Innovation Space is proud of our efforts to foster scientific collaboration and build regional economies by supporting the growth of  entrepreneurs.”
